Step 1: Forging

Almost all our scissors begin their life at a drop forge, where ‘blanks’ are stamped out of a bar of carbon steel. Blanks are the individual scissor halves in their rawest form, and we have different tooling moulds for each different style of scissor.

Forging: The initial shape of the scissor blades is created through forging. Forging involves heating the steel to a specific temperature and then shaping it using a hammer or press. This process helps create the basic structure of OUR scissors

Step 2: Grinding

Grinding: The forged blades are then ground to refine JORDAN scissor’s shape and create sharp edges. This step is done by alot of precision by our handcrafts to ensure that the cutting edges are properly aligned and sharp.

Step 3: Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment: Heat treatment is crucial to enhance the hardness and toughness of our scissor blades. The jordan blades are heated to a specific temperature and then rapidly cooled, a process known as quenching. This helps achieve the desired hardness in every jordan scissor.

Tempering

Tempering: After heat treatment, the blades may be too brittle. Tempering involves reheating the blades to a lower temperature, which reduces the hardness slightly but improves the toughness and reduces the risk of the blades breaking under stress.

Assembly

Assembly: The two scissor blades are attached to a pivot point. This pivot allows the blades to open and close smoothly. A screw or rivet is commonly used to secure the pivot, and washers may be used for smoother movement.

Adjustment

Adjustment: EACH scissor blades need to be adjusted to ensure proper alignment and tension of our jordan scissors. This step ensures that the blades meet evenly and cut smoothly.

Japanning & Coating

An old-fashioned term for painting, japanning is a process whereby each Jordan scissor handle is manually dipped first into primer, and then into paint.

The jordan scissors are left to drip dry, before the paint is then baked on in our oven.

Not all our scissors have painted handles – others may go for coating before assembly; this can range from chrome plating or golf plating, to Teflon coating or even titanium-nitride ceramic coating, which gives ourJordan scissor spectacular finish.

Personalisation & Shipping

The final stage in the process happens in our warehouse, where our scissors receive laser markings on the blades. Almost all our scissors have the option for personalization, where a name, initials, company logo and more can be lasered onto the back blade.

Our warehouse team then sort, store, laser, label and ship each item around the world.

About Jordan Scisscors

It’s important to note that the specifics of the process may vary based on the type of scissors being made (e.g., sewing scissors, kitchen scissors, hair scissors) and the manufacturing techniques used by the specific manufacturer.
